Kangaroo Island, Australia’s penguins, seals, sea lions, wallabies, and, of course, kangaroos

There are so many chances to see animals on Kangaroo Island.

First, there are Kangaroos and Wallabies just out and about in the town at night.  You can see them hopping across lawns at dusk.  If you are using a rental car, you aren’t allowed to drive at night because it is so likely that you will hit something.

There is an odd-looking short-billed species of geese (Cape Barren Geese), that nearly went extinct previously, on the island that you can see on the grass fields in Flinder’s Chase National Park – which is a great place to visit for the many attractions there.

There are also penguins living right near where the ferry comes over from the mainland that you can take a tour to see.  Because they come out at night, you may want to stay at least one night in the area to see them because of the driving restriction at night.
