Dubrovnik City Walls (Croatia) – UNESCO site

Croatia - P1070648.JPG

Dubrovnik is a beautiful ancient city that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the coast of Croatia.  The ancient trading port is surrounded by fortified walls that you can walk around completely getting wonderful views of the town.

It’s obvious why this was chosen for many Game of Thrones’ settings.

The entrance to the town has hardly changed over the centuries.  A small bridge to a narrow portal funnels people into the fortified city.Croatia - P1070651.JPG

The walk that encircles the town has great views of all the terra cotta tiled rooves (many of which had to be replaced after the siege during the Croatian War for Independence, at great expense and with many public donations like buying a tile “sponsorships”).

It is beautiful. If you go, I’d suggest you first walk around the wall, then go visit sites. And stop and get some black linguini if you like seafood. Soooo good.
