In Australia, on the island of Tasmania, a fun thing you can do is go visit the meerkats.

I’ve been fascinated by meerkats nearly forever. They are part of the mongoose family and live in Africa in large underground colonies. They are super-cute, had their own tv show for a while (Meerkat Manor), and form a society with meerkats in the roles of babysitters, security guards, and a queen (who is the only one who gets to have babies, in this case). Groups of meerkats are called mobs.
At the ZooDoo Zoo, you can sit on the ground and feed the meerkats, who will climb all over you on a quest for tasty grubs. (You can also hold a snake and be climbed on by marmosets – which are also super-cute – if you so desire).
