Caves: Underground in the Dominican Republic

 

When you are in the Dominican Republic a fun thing to do is go to the Cuevas de las Maravillas (Cave of Wonders).

This attraction is near La Romana, a popular resort area.

There is a very steep staircase to get into the caves.

The caves are traditional stalagmite and stalactite rich wonders with the added attraction of having many old petroglyphs from the Taino (the local indigenous people).

 

Currently, there are tours that take about an hour that escort you through the site and point out many of the interesting cave paintings.
